What is an office now?
The DTM is a direct response to health concerns associated with sitting at a desk for long periods of time and the recent increase in home working, in response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic. In the office environment fixed adjustment office chairs are often used, however if not set up correctly, health problems can result. When used in the home environment the risk of the chair being set up incorrectly is increased and furthermore they generally do not suit a home environment. This project started with a vision to design an analog adjustment ergonomic chair, however through research this ambition changed. The final design is a task chair which requires no set-up and promotes movement and active sitting, thereby engendering positive health and productivity benefits. Its upholstered base and gentle form suits a home environment and allows it to blend in with existing furniture unlike utilitarian and industrial office furniture.
