This project attempted to redefine coiling into contemporary furniture wares.
Coiling is a pottery technique which has been around for over two thousand years. I started this project with no experience of working with clay and was introduced to this technique and the process of extruding cylinders to coil with. Traditionally when using the technique of coiling the outside surface is blended together to create a smooth surface. This project is about leaving these coils in there raw form and highlighting the hidden structure that many ceramic pieces have.
