We have been conditioned to see cultural appropriation as inherently bad, but is this the reality? Appropriation is everywhere: it exists in the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the words we speak. It is not an easy subject to navigate, but perhaps it is not meant to be. Though we might expect, and want, a place that provides all the answers, no single authority has that power. Culture is fluid, ever-changing, and up to interpretation—the discussion around cultural appropriation should be too. This publication is designed to convey that: it is unbound, lacks page numbers, and features a range of opinions. It is accompanied by a purpose-built surface where the viewer can get to grips with the subject matter by organising their thoughts, recategorising information as they wish, and finding comfort in their confusion.

Let’s Get Cultural, a publication exploring the conversation around culture and cultural appropriation.
