I aimed to unpick the quote,“we are limited animals with unlimited horizons.” I wanted to understand ways I unconsciously limit myself. Specifically looking at the idea of gender as this is something I had always accepted and still do. My work argues that we limit ourselves through our associations of what men and women should be. We narrow our ability to accept female ideas onto male body’s and vice versa. My work highlights that creating moulds and associations for a typical boy & girl limits the potential for new ways of being. If people deviate from what is considered “typical” they should not feel abnormal. I always thought that girls and boys where different due to our genetics however after finalising this project I now think that’s a lazy assumption and its more likely to be social factors.
