Carmen is an illustrator and writer from Hong Kong and currently based in London. She worked as a lifestyle reporter for three years in Hong Kong before studying illustration. With experience working with words and affection on drawing, Carmen’s works focus on exploring the relationship between words and illustration.

Carmen’s project is named ‘Cocoon’. In Cantonese, cocoon not only refers to the silky case spun by the larvae of many insects, but also calluses that grow on our skin. This is a book that uses illustrations and quotes to express the sense of ‘powerlessness’ towards Hong Kong after all the social movements and protests that we had.

“You can leave Hong Kong, but it will never leave you.”  — Nury Vittachi

Being born and raised in Hong Kong, the country shaped me and it is always my inspiration.
