The fictitious drama “Citizens of Nowhere” is based on true events around ‘Windrush scandal’. The story centres on Dana, a 60-year-old working-class Caribbean woman who was unlawfully held by the UK government following the “Hostile Environment Policy 2012” on the grounds that she was an unauthorised immigrant.

The Windrush controversy involved individuals who were wrongfully held, denied legal rights, threatened with deportation, and in at least 83 cases, wrongfully deported from the UK by the Home Office. Many of those impacted came from Caribbean nations, as part of the so-called “Windrush generation.”
