Aasana is a collection of footrests made from white oak using the ‘Tarkashi’ metal wire inlay technique and inspired by the deep-rooted craft traditions of India. It takes inspiration from lost furniture prevalent in Indian history, combining the visual culture of the pillars of Indian temples with the contemporary essence of sitting culture. The term ‘Aasan’ is explored as a metaphorical interpretation of ‘pillar’ – a supporting body for any structure that is placed upon it. Aasan – the furniture piece that will sit in any surroundings, any place, any culture, in the today and tomorrow notion of the contemporary.
