Redefining The Edge is a proposal for an organisation with an open-source physical intervention model, aiming to achieve climate resilience for coastal vulnerable communities. The project responds directly to the plight of Mumbai’s fishing community, and other similar coastal communities around the world, who are victims of local over development and global ecosystem decline. It provides a means for these vulnerable communities to thrive in the face of challenging local and global changes.

A modular honeycomb structure is used to help recreate lost mangrove habitat. Expanding mangroves provide a home for fish and other animals, and protect nearby settlements from damaging natural forces. Fishing communities take on the responsibility of management and maintenance of this new habitat, diversifying their economic activities. Ecological restoration and economic security can go hand-in-hand if managed sensitively at a local level.
