My project focused on the concept of evil, in particular that of inherent evil. I think that believing in inherent evil on an individual level is flawed, and reductive. My concertina follows the central character as they loose belief in this idea of personal inherent good and evil, instead focusing on larger systemic evils, which are then responsible for leading to these interpersonal ‘evils’. Text stating ‘Evil is not born from individual, inherent wickedness, but exists through systems which breed this behaviour’ runs along the back of the concertina. I’ve used colour as a way to mark this ‘good’ and ‘evil’, with deep oranges and blues set against a contrast of inky black. The length of my concertina is meant to portray the complicated nature of this issue, with the paper becoming more difficult for the reader to hold as it unfolds.
