Flares, Funnels, Flanges – Swaged Shelving Unit
‘Flares, Funnels, Flanges’, is an explorative project into the manipulation of metal tubing through the forging process of swaging.
Often used in the plumbing and automotive industry, swaging alters the dimension and form of metal tubes, expanding or reducing the sizing through the use of dies into which the tube is forced.
‘Swaged’ is a modular shelving unit with minimal components and no fixings, that has been inspired by, and celebrates this traditional forging process.
The tubular sections have been formed to create a junction that allows unlimited height shelves and free-standing room dividers to be easily assembled and disassembled by hand, without the need for tools. It can therefore adapt and be re-configured to suit each individual user’s needs.
