Ellie’s work compares images of British trash culture to the regurgitated imagery of tattooing, collaging them together to discuss our cultural obsession with customizing the body. Her work also plays with repetitive motifs, such as beers cans and kebab shop signs, as portals to teenage memories. Her collaged compositions are chaotic and intoxicated, mirroring the memories themselves. She uses painting as a cathartic process to dissect imagery and her own identity, commenting on same sex desire, the female gaze, and nostalgia.
Ellie Turley is a London based multi media artist, studying BA Fine Art. She was born in Hampshire, 2001.
Her work discusses trash culture and the concept of permanence conveyed through ‘lesbian gaze’, commodity fetishism, and tattooing. A playful portrayal of personal observations within our image driven culture.
