I have designed and made a piece that embraces and normalises stains. This is to encourage people to wash their clothes less as the rising concern and obsession with appearing clean is having detrimental impacts on the environment. I looked at how I could fabricate the stains by using symmetry and highlighting them with embroidery, allowing them to appear intentional. The media I used in my final garment was linen cotton sheets as they are one of the most commonly discarded textiles. Additionally, in the 16th century, people believed that linen shirts could be worn as undergarments to absorb sweat, protecting the clothes and body from the need of washing. Using my old bed sheets encouraged this act of sustainability as I could repurpose old stained sheets rather than discarding them.
