Han Xiao is a filmmaker from China, born in 1998. She is good at exploring female emotions and desires, has written and directed three short films.
The Isle is Han Xiao’s graduation film, it is about a director Violet, is preparing her feature film in a remote island. She urgently needs to go back to mainland as she receives the suicidal news of her boyfriend. However, a typhoon is about to land, there is no way to leave this island. Her guilt and anguish is slowly revealed.
The short film reveals Violet’s inner self through a story-within-story, the feature film she is making is a reflection of her mental world. The key words of this film are freedom and loneliness. Violet is a beautiful and talented woman, her selfishness and the quest of freedom that doom her to be lonely.
