Stone Tape refers to a theory that ghosts are memories imprinted into the walls that can be played back like a cassette tape. I wanted to explore hauntings in this way, focusing on the memories that are associated with certain places. During my project I explored the history of spiritualism and different beliefs regarding the afterlife, considering what may have led people to hold these beliefs. I found hauntings to be the most interesting, as there is a long history of supposedly haunted places, and I wanted to investigate this topic with a more skeptical mindset. Focusing more on the haunting feeling a place can give off rather than any supernatural happenings, I collected various environments that now exist only as vague recollections to communicate this feeling.
