Recently my work has explored my own internal monologue and ways in which my thoughts can be represented in a variety of symbols or objects. There is a difficulty in being vulnerable and putting your thoughts out into the world and it could be that I have attempted to dull this by creating an almost sterile looking combination of images to represent heavy thoughts and feelings. Collection is a central part of my practice and over a period of time I began collecting different memories, conversations, ideas and eventually a collection of visual symbols were attached to the recurring things I had found to be notable. Painting is a process which requires time and dedication and thoughts can often be fleeting. Learning to detach from thoughts is freeing and attaching these symbols to my thoughts replicates this detachment.
