Matilda Shaw-Nichols is an illustrator who likes to work in a range of materials through a physical process; currently her main focus is working with print, particularly relief and intaglio printmaking. Line, detail and colour is particularly important as it creates mystery and excitement, she likes to layer different processes and techniques in order to discover something new from the original idea. Ceramics and textiles is something Matilda likes to incorporate with her illustrations, as well as occasionally positioning herself amongst her work.

Her practice is largely influenced and inspired by nature, animals, folklore and the body, trying to bring a magical aspect along with a tongue-in-cheek tone to her work.

Norfolk Legends is a series of prints Matilda is currently working on, inspired by folklore and superstitions from Norfolk, where she is from.
