My name is Meiyi Chen. I am a graphic designer studying at Kingston University for Graphic Design. During my study, I explore areas such as branding, publication design, photography…I have finished many projects and gained skills and experiences along the way. I discover my interest focus on the positive impact design can bring to individuals, and I like to create unique design solutions for different people and organisations.

My first project ‘Joseph Cornell travel box’ is a Publication project of my dissertation about Joseph Cornell. I use the dissertation as the foundation and produce the publication around my writing. My focus is the artist Joseph Cornell, who was famous for his Assemblage, hence I choose to make my publication similarly, dividing my dissertation and making them into a different format. Eventually, all come together in the travel box.

My second project ‘Act together’ is a motion graphics piece for the audio ‘Act together’ by Vivek Murthy. I decide my audience is the people who are focused on virtual relationships more than real-life relationships. Hence I combine real-life footage and 2D drawing to create my motion graphics.

The third project is ‘The human trace’, I use photography to explore the text ‘Paths (a kind of introduction)’ by philosopher Vilém Flusser. I chose to photograph the desire paths, which believed to say something about the human spirit and how people behave. It shows even in an ordered society, not everyone would follow the rules that set by the society, and I recorded it.

The Fourth project ‘A puddle of water’ is my collaboration with Luyi Bai. we have set up an organisation to help international students dealing with loneliness issues. According to the survey, the loneliness issue among international students is getting worse each year, while one of the root reasons behind it is caused by being or feeling isolated. A puddle of water is an organisation that focuses on the issue and aims to provide various supports.
