The thesis of studio 3.3 is to ‘Go Large’ by identifying significant cultural players of Essex’s territory, the film industry, the existing nature and architecture. The design project intends to correlate what is existing to what is new. To enhance the town of Purfleet, where the site is
located, understanding its language and identifying its needs while supporting what is there.

Purfleet is known as a seaport, a storage depot and a military station, but it also carries the essence of the film industry with buildings such as the Opera House and the Backstage Centre. The design proposes a modular structure that tackles the temporality of the film industry and the state of the brownfield site. The design celebrates and enhances the essence of Purfleet in the film industry and the local activities.
