Rachels practice is concerned with craft, kitsch, and hobbyist culture, storytelling, miniature worlds, and mimicking. Illustration; specifically short comics, and sculpture; specifically clay and textiles. She expresses these themes through narrative, characters, and curating scenes. All underpinned by feelings of unease and disquiet.
This installation for the degree show attempts to suggest narrative through time. Characters and props have been adopted from the children’s show ‘In the Night Garden’, they are left alone for plants to grow, clay to crumble and soil to sodden fabric. Their story is of abandonment, degradation and rotting.
