Changing wedding customs are the mirror of a rapidly changing China.

After the economic reform and open-up in 1978, people’s lives changed dramatically. The influence of Western culture and the opened up of market economy allowed people’s lives had rapid improvement. It was a time of change and open to the outside world. This project reflects the economic development in China by showing the changes in the household items and bride prices that Chinese people prepare for their weddings after the economic reform and open-up.

Ziyun Chen is an illustrator and ceramic artist based in China.She loves nature, plants, animals, sunshine and rivers. In the future, she hopes to live and work in her own studio in the countryside.
